Japanese Spring

იაპონია, ამომავალი მზის ქვეყანა, ადგილია, რომელიც თუ ერთხელ გვინახავს, ვერ ვივიწყებთ, თუ არა – აუცილებლად სანახავ ქვეყნების სიაში გვაქვს დამატებული.

საკურას ყვავილობა, ზღვის პროდუქტების საოცარი სამზარეულო, თუ აკურატულად შერწყმული ძველი და თანამედროვე სტილი, ესაა მცირედი ჩამონათვალი, რის გამოც იაპონია უმალ იპყრობს ჩვენს გულს.

თუმცა, იაპონიის გაცნობის კიდევ ერთი მიზეზი მისი ლიტერატურაა, რომელიც ზემოთჩამოთვლილს, და არამარტო, გვაცნობს იაპონელი მწერლების საშუალებით.

დიახ, ასეთ უცნაურ სიუჟეტზეა აგებული Yoko Ogawa-ს ბესთსელერი „The Housekeeper and the Professor“, ამბავს კი მოსამსახურე მოგვითხრობს, რომელიც ყოველ დილით ხელახლა ეცნობა პროფესორს, რომელთანაც უჩვეულო ურთიერთობა უყალიბდება.

Welcome to Tiger Time!

Tiger Time is a vibrant, six-level primary course based around different settings and characters which grow and change with the students, reflecting their evolving interests and needs.

Units contain humorous stories told through different genres, which use everyday language as well as catchy songs, chants and raps at the lower levels. Changes in the children’s and YA book market

According to Nielsen Book’s research, print books remain popular among young readers. Despite the accessibility of e-books, most readers aged 8-17 don’t use their smartphones and tablets to read, preferring print books.

It’s not all good news, however, since the research also showed that the proportion of readers aged 0-17 had dropped by another percentage point. Percentages are dropping fastest in boys aged 8-10. (At the same time, though, those considered “frequent” readers are actually reading more per week.)

Instead of reading, children aged 3-10 are increasingly turning toward online activities, such as YouTube and computer games. Watching TV on mobile devices is another popular activity, which increased by 13%(!) points in 2015 over 2014 as a weekly activity among 0-17 year olds.

The research also split up UK readers into four groups: the “Superfans”, the “Distractibles”, the “Potentials” and the “Antis”. The latter group tend to be male (aged 14-17) and don’t like reading at all, preferring to use YouTube, social media and texting instead. The “Superfans”, on the other hand, are more likely to be female and love reading. The “Potentials” are the largest group; they enjoy reading but only occasionally. Finally, the “Distractibles” are mostly male, who enjoy some reading, but still prefer the internet and physical activities.

4 Ideas to Kickstart Your Summer Learning

To keep our students sharp over the summer, we often assign subject-specific reading, math drills, and projects. However, as educators, we also need to hone our own skills, develop new ideas, and reflect on our practice. Here are five ways to kickstart your summer learning.

 

1. Construct Your Learning Archive

When planning curriculum or attending professional development, we collect resources — both physical and digital. However, we need an efficient way to organize what we find valuable. In the past, this has resulted in the accumulation of binders or folders, but now we also have files scattered across devices.

Take time this summer to create a learning archive. A great digital system supports the individual learner and can be saved, searched, or shared. Whether you choose Evernote, OneNote, or Google Drive, think about how you can start organizing all of your learning and making it accessible from any device and at any time. If you prefer handwritten notes on paper, make sure to pick a tool that allows you to easily take pictures of those notes, add them to your archive, and search them later.

In addition to collecting notes, think about how you might archive online resources. You could add links and notes to a Google Doc or an Evernote note, or build a shareable library using Diigo or Pinterest.

Not only is summer a great time to get organized for the coming school year, but it’s also a fantastic time to explore.

If you already have or want to set up a class website or blog, an email newsletter for parents, or a learning management system take time over the summer to design and test your digital space.

 

4. Redesign Your Physical Space

Your current students have become comfortable in your classroom, office, or lab. They understand your expectations and routine. Fast-forward to fall. What do you want your students to think when they enter your space? Is this a class where they’ll engage in group work and discussion? Do they have choice in how they demonstrate their learning? What do you have on the walls? Where is your desk? All of these considerations help set the tone for your students.
