The weather is changed! There are mostly cloudy and rainy days. Let’s find out some facts about clouds!

Those fluffy puffs in the sky that sometimes look like UFOs, sometimes ducks but mainly whatever your imagination tells you.

Here are a couple of fun facts about them that you might find interesting:

  1. It takes somewhere between a few minutes and an hour for clouds to be created.
  2. Other planets in our solar system also have clouds.
  3. The classic white cloud is known as “cumulus”.
  4. Hindus and Buddhists believe that cumulus clouds are the spiritual cousins of elephants. 
  5. There is an official international Cloud Committee.

What does tidings mean?

It is an old-fashioned word that simply means news and information. Bidding someone “good tidings” wishes them good, positive news and thoughts. It’s the same if you have “bad tidings,” you bring bad, negative news or thoughts with you. This term is a little unusual since it’s almost always in the plural form; you would never say, “I bring you a good tiding“!

Where does it come from?

In 1069, the Old English pronounced it as tīdung, which is related to the Middle Low German word of tīdinge information. In Old Norse it is tidhendi events.
