Marta Mikeladze – “HAPPINESS IS NEAR’’

It was 12 December. New Year was coming. Everyone in the Pullman family was happy except for August. August hated New Year and he was in a bad mood because of several reasons. One day his mother called him:

– “August, can you come here? Your father and I have news for you”, his mum said. August sat down and listened to the news, which was extremely bad for him. 

– “August, we know it will be hard, but you have to change school”, mum said. August was so suppressed, also angry and sad but he had no choice. He knew they were going to move into a new house, but he couldn’t understand that he had to change his old school and beloved friends. His friends, Jack and Summer felt really bad when they heard this news.

They told him that this would not ruin their friendship and they would still meet each other again. They went into the class together. After their classmates heard the news, they were really sad too. August was a good student, excellent friend and a great human. They wished August good luck in his new school. August’s new school was really strange. All the classmates were laughing at him and they were bullying him.  No one showed him the school and he often got lost, therefore he was late too. August had no friends and was very alone. 

He always dreamt of his old school and he wrote that in Santa’s letter too. Days went by. New Year was near and the Pullman family was getting ready. They were inviting their beloved people. Parents were buying food, they were cleaning the house and so on. August decided not to help them. As I have already mentioned, he hated New Year. Here is the reason why. It was 2014, and the New Year was coming. They all celebrated it together, ate traditional dishes, sang songs, played some quizzes and read New Year’s stories and then the time for fireworks came. August and his father decided to use their biggest fireworks together. 

August was standing in front of his father. He was holding a firework and August was so happy, but suddenly this firework exploded and burnt August’s face. It was such a big firework and it caused many problems on August’s face. He even needed surgeries. After that August hated fireworks and New Year because this day was the worst for him. The holidays finally started. August was happy because he felt really uncomfortable in his new school. It was 30 December. August went to bed and started worrying and crying.

He fell asleep and suddenly went into a totally new world. He was dreaming. He opened his eyes in a big snowy place with fireworks around him and elves walking there, carrying big boxes and letters. Reindeer were running and there were caramel flowers there. Suddenly Santa appeared there, put him onto his sleigh and took August away. Santa took August to his house with Mrs. Klaus. It was the best dream ever.
