Ana Nozadze – Christmas Essay

In Georgia, we have a tradition called “Mekvle”. The Mekvle’s job is to be the first person to go enter the house after New Year’s. If the “Mekvle” had a good year it is said that he has a “good leg” and if he will be the first one to step into someone’s house on New Year’s, they will have good luck for the rest of the year.

We also have “Guruli Gvezeli”. It is a dish that is served on New Year’s Eve. People put a coin in the dish and whoever finds the coin in their serving will have a financially prosperous New Year.
