Born in Aracataca, Colombia, writer Gabriel\u00a0Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez grew up listening to family tales, eventually becoming a journalist.\u00a0His fiction work introduced readers to magical realism, which combines more conventional storytelling with vivid fantasy. His novels\u00a0Cien<\/em>\u00a0a\u00f1os de soledad<\/em>\u00a0(One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em>) and\u00a0El amor en los tiempos del c\u00f3lera<\/em>\u00a0(Love in the Time of Cholera<\/em>) have drawn worldwide audiences, and he won a Nobel Prize in 1982.
