Reading as a life skill
From the early years, reading can be tackled as a life skill in addition to being a skill of its own. The concept of reading for pleasure can be incorporated into our lessons from the beginning with regular reading taking place with children listening and discussing what meaning each story or picture holds for them. The more confident young readers become, the more advanced thinking skills can be introduced and developed. In this session, teachers will rediscover reading lessons as a gate to critical thinking, critical literacy, creativity and innovation.
Mistake Management with Primary Learners: The Ifs, Whys and Ways
This session gets teachers thinking about the beliefs and theories they hold about correcting writing and provides ample opportunities for them to learn and share practical and effective ways of doing it with younger learners.
